Lucky in Love...

We are 3 days away from one of my favorite holidays! St. Paddy's Day...good food, good friends and Good Luck! Now I'm not so crazy about the green beer, not that it tastes any different...it just doesn't look so appealing! My latest favorite is Smithwick's~~I think I blogged about it last Aug., but now it's here!...our local grocer started carrying it! It's Irish...see if you can find some in your area!

Here's an Irish trivia question for you...Do you know what this is? My friends across the pond my have a distinct advantage with this one!

This one is mine, given to me by my wonderful Hubby when we were dating.

Yes...it is a rat! Now, you might think it's gross or unappealing...but it has a VERY significant meaning!

So, what am I working on these days? Well...yesterday JH and I had our 2nd knitting class with our young ladies (they are a great group of young ladies...BTW)...I'm spinning some beautiful black merino top...working on flocking the merino fleece I bought a couple weeks ago...finishing up my 2nd Jaywalker sock...knitting on my Civil War Shawl...and finding more and more to do! Geez, do you really think I need another hobby? I want to learn to weave and take a pottery class!

Well...better go get my walk in while it's not raining!

Keep on Knittin', Spinnin' & Walkin'!!!!!

No idea what that thing is, but it's got a bunch of celtic knots on it, which must be significant. Perhaps the rat indicates it's some kind of talisman against the black plague?

Yes, I'd say you've got a gracious plenty of hobbies! :-)

It looks like it could be a door knocker, I note it has a cord tied on its tail.....I'll need to put my thinking cap on for this one.

Weaving and pottery? GO FOR IT!

You know, I hate to admit this, but I haven't a clue....what IS it??

hmmm... in Celtic mythology i think the rat symbolizes self-defense and/or finding what you seek. Is it a knife for self-protection when you were running with a bad crowd? (hah ha) Or a compass maybe? A flask for sneaking drinks during knit club? (if so, why aren't you sharing with the rest of us?)

I really don't have a clue so I thought I would make something up. It really is a beautiful piece.

Robin, You do realize when you do this I cannot let go, I am a woman obsessed...this celtic rat is eating shamrock/clover, the cord isn't long enough to be a pendant, do you hang it over the hearth for defense? protection? mmmmm. mercy.

I showed Doogie the beer. He loves ales.

Well, Bobbi was right about Smithwicks - great ale! The rat, though, has now become a moral imperative. I've got to find out what it means (and post it, of course!). Being a good Scot, this shouldn't take too long....

I found it!! I had to open about a dozen different searches, but finally came across it.

It's a "cong" - an Irish symbol of "love always watching, ever caring". It is said that "whoever carries it has a promise of love in their arms."

Your hubby is obviously a very smart man to make sure that you knew you were thh one for him...

Way to go doogie! I stopped at 3 searches...obviously not searching in the right place.
Isn't that beautiful?

I was just at the grocery store and they had Smithwycks! I picked some up for Doogie right away on your recommendation.
