Hoos with Heavy Hearts...

My son's girlfriend sent this today...it's on the UVA student website...here's the letter that was also written...
As I'm sure everyone knows I'm a WaHoo...and for those who have no idea what that is...I'm a UVA fan (2 major State Universities in VA)...rivalry set aside I'm feeling the TOTAL sense of community here. I have many friends who either are alum, their children attend-even my cousin's daughter (who's having a very rough freshman year), I have friends who are on staff and my daughter has friends she graduated with who are in their freshman year....Sure, during football season the air gets very thick with the BIG STATE rivalry...but we've all come together to support the families, friends and students experiencing this tragedy first hand.
Check out this cartoon....

Some of the State Universities mascots are consoling the Hokie Bird.

Remember my Clapotis? Well, it's finished and little did I know that I would become a prayer shawl...as I finished it each and every stitch a prayer or thought went out to ALL those who have been so changed by these recent events.

I would love to write more but blogging just doesn't seem so important at the moment...I do have some other things to share but feel that I need to sign off and change my salutation to....

Keep on Prayin'!!!!!

It's so heartwarming that everyone can put their differences aside and become "one" during this tragic time...sad that it takes something of this magnitude to make some see how petty their differences are...and I realize that most of those are 'in fun'..
Great Blog Entry..and your shawl..as all your finished items..totally breathtaking!!
I can't seem to get up the gusto to blog..like you, I've been affiliated with so many in so many capacities at Tech..my heart just 'hurts'..for each and every one..those that met their untimely death..as well as those that are left to deal with this and try to make some sense of it...and keep that HOKIE spirit alive!

I hadn't seen the cartoon... it's every bit as touching as the wall from UVA. We are all Hokies right now...

your clapotis turned out very beautiful.

I love the cartoon! Since Monday, I keep catching myself about to bawl at different times of the day. Thanks for your prayers. The Clapotis is beautiful.

If you go to lansingcartoons.com, you can see a larger version of that "Today We Are All Hokies" cartoon, with more state university mascots in it. I sent it to my brother-in-law who's a dean at Liberty in Lynchburg, and he wrote back and said, "Well, I guess we're not ALL Hokies!", (since Liberty wasn't represented in the cartoon), and my response was -- I think the artist was just including (public) state colleges, two of which you've graduated from!
